March 30, 2014 by Rebekah in ETC., Fashion This is probably one of my most favorite outfits that I own. I LOVE, LOVE mixing prints, but it does take a certain amount of skill to make sure you don’t leave the house looking like you got dressed in the dark. You can easily elevate the fashion-factor (is that even a phrase?) of an outfit when you combine some good patterns.
Through trial and error (yes, some major fashion faux pas), I have learned a few things about mixing and matching. Here are ways to make it work:
1) Wear two different prints that have the same color, like

When Elke Govertsen was 25, she died. Flat lined in a hospital-the whole nine yards.
But, let’s start from the beginning because Elke’s story isn’t typical. She grew up in poverty in Alaska, and her first job was as a welder. After that, she traveled the world helping at-risk groups, including starving families and prostitutes. During one of her journeys, she contracted typhoid fever, which is how she ended up fighting

March 23, 2014 by Rebekah in Career, ETC. I am a podcast fanatic; without my podcasts, my work day would be so boring!! The point is I was pretty stocked when Natalie Eckdahl, host of The Biz Chix Podcast asked me to be on an episode. My very first podcast interview!
I obviously loved it! I mean who doesn’t love to just chit chat about life, career, hobbies for 30 mins?!
In my interview, we discussed the differences between gen y and gen x, how we can all work together and PR tips for the average entrepreneur. Another hot topic that we touched on was whether

So, yesterday I had the pleasure of speaking with the wonderful ladies of UT’s Phi Beta Chi chapter, which is a professional women’s sorority. When they first asked me to be a guest at their monthly meeting, I was a little nervous because they told me I could talk about anything. This kind of free for all is daunting because I am used to only speaking about PR.
When I was pondering what I should talk about, I remembered reading this post on writes like a girl, where Nicole shared her life mantras. I thought, “what

From a young age, Katie Ganshert knew she loved to write. After spending time in Kenya doing HIV/AIDS outreach, she was haunted by some of the devastation that she saw. She used writing as an outlet for her experience. Even though she managed to write a full length novel, she realized it was harder than she thought to get published.
In 2008, while spending Valentine’s Day in NYC with her husband, she knew

March 18, 2014 by Rebekah in ETC., Fashion When it comes to clothes, I usually stick to a pretty neutral color palette. However, I am pretty much obsessed with a good orange + blue combo. In the same day, I bought this sweater from Gap (on super sale!), and a skirt with the same hues.
I love this outfit. I am almost sad that it is getting warmer because I probably won’t be able to wear it again any time soon.
I have recently

So earlier this week, I went to check out the new Teysha store on S. 1st. If you aren’t familiar with the brand, you really should be.
While traveling the world, co-founders, Sophie and Travis, saw the damaging impacts of poverty and deforestation. They believed that social entrepreneurship, conscious capitalism, and micro-finance were the most effective tools to empower people.
Thus, Teysha was born to help give artisans around the world more opportunity. The artists make beautiful, hand-crafted belts, shoes and hats.
Sophie and Travis explain, “By joining our mission, you are helping to create a world in

After her husband was fired from his job as a college football coach because he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Maura Horton started a fashion business out of her home. Her company, MagnaReady, makes dress shirts for men and women that are held closed with magnets so people with arthritis, Parkinson’s or other mobility-limiting conditions can dress without help.
I really admire Maura because she was able to turn a challenging

March 9, 2014 by Rebekah in ETC., Lifestyle I have been really bad about posting this week. Part of the reason is I have just been so busy with work. The other part of the reason is I am starting to feeling a little confused as to the direction of the blog. I feel like this blog has two separate identities. On one hand, I have posts about all the things I do (What I Wore, What I Ate). Then, on the other hand, I have posts about other people (Career Confidential, 3 Things I Wish I Knew in my 20s). I love all of it, so maybe
