Even though I am Jewish, Christmas is still my favorite holiday. Why? Because it allows me to catch up on fun things like blog posts. It is the only day of the year that I have absolutely no obligations because obviously no one is working (yay! no e-mails) and all of my friends are busy with their families. It is so nice.
I have a confession: I have lived in Austin for over 2 years, and until last weekend, I had never shopped at two of Austin’s vintage staples: Blue Velvet and Room Service. They are both located on North Loop (hence the name of this blog post). I decided to go check out the stores last Sunday to see if I could find any more random gems for my apartment. Once I got there, I was really annoyed with myself that I hadn’t checked them out earlier because there were definitely some good finds.
BLUE VELVET:
While I am not supposed to be shopping for clothes because I am saving money, I decided to make an exception, and check out Blue Velvet. The best thing about Blue Velvet? The vintage t-shirt rack organized by size. As everyone knows, I die for a good, well worn t-shirt, so I was in heaven.
You can’t really tell from this picture, but they have so much fur! OMG. I was in love.
I really like vintage stores that mix unique costume pieces with items that you can actually wear. I feel like Blue Velvet does a good job of creating that balance.
ROOM SERVICE:
As you probably guessed from the name, Room Service mainly sells vintage furniture. It is so cool in there…I pretty much wanted to buy everything, but I had to remind myself that I live in a tiny one bedroom apartment.
Ok yes, I bought this lava lamp. For what reason? I am not really sure. Other than, I felt like my bachelorette pad wouldn’t be complete without it.
[…] neighbors Room Service were featured recently in an article posted both in Lucky Magazine and the Neon Notebook blog by Beka Epstein! Thanks, Beka and we look forward to more of your Austin shopping […]
My daughter and I bought a home-made clay bust of Reagan at Room Service. Painted in Tejano fashion, and weighing a ton, It is quite the mantle piece. Room Service is a great store for any decor!
