3 Things I Wish I Had Known In My 20s: Stacy Lyon

Stacy Lyon has always been an entrepreneur. Her first business venture was when she was 9 years old; she sold worms to Shawano Lake (Wisconsin) fishermen. Then, in college, she started an entrepreneurs club at the University of Wyoming. Now, she is the founder of healthy hoohoo, which is a revolutionary line of natural freshness products for women.

There is no question about it: Stacy has created a very successful brand with products that might not be the sexiest to talk about. Her line is now carried at Whole Foods, natural grocers, spas and wellness clinics around the country.

To get to where she is today, she has gone through many trials and errors. She has learned a lot over the years, and now she shares the 3 things she wishes she had known in her 20s with us:

Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want.  What’s the worst someone can say besides “No”?  Whether it’s a raise, special pricing or a hot potential date, odds are that you will receive far more yesses than no’s on average and enjoy greater life success than those who risked nothing.

Grow a thick skin.  The slings and arrows of life start on the grade school playground and will continue throughout your life.  The sooner you learn to develop a Teflon exterior the better. Learn to accept criticism with an open mind and learn lessons where you can, even when the only lesson is that the criticism says more about the critic than it does about you. DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONALLY!

Don’t take yourself too seriously: some of the best advice I ever received was when someone told me “When you’re young, the world seems pretty simple, but your role in it seems so complicated.  When you’re older, you realize that the world is infinitely complicated, but your role in it is fairly simple”
