Career Confidential: Claire Hardee

1069901_611942855203_1951296055_nThis week’s Career Confidential is a good one from our very own contributor, Claire Hardee (Not Another Suzy Homemaker aka NASH). Ok, I know you are probably wondering where her columns are, but she is in the process of moving, so stay tuned. Even I am excited to see what she has cookin’ up because Lord knows that I could learn a few tips/tricks in the kitchen.

While Claire definitely doesn’t have your typical 9-to-5 job, I wanted

PSA: Stop Waiting Till you are Skinny to Live Your Life

The other day I was having a conversation with an acquaintance of mine, and she kept telling me about all the things she was going to do when she lost weight. I left the conversation feeling annoyed and angry because she was willing to pause her whole life for something so superficial. But mostly, I was sad that she couldn’t see that she was already fabulous.

I honestly hate talking about weigh because it should be a non-issue. Who cares? Really.

However, this conversation just really left me thinking about all the similar conversations I have had. If I had

Impending Doom

I am not sure what it is. Maybe it is because it is Monday, and I always feel a little bit off on Mondays, but I woke up with an impending sense of doom that my 26th birthday is in a month. 26 is old!! Last week, I went to my routine dermatology appointment, and I found myself almost asking about Botox. Whoa slow the breaks; I want to still be able to show emotion!!

For some reason, 26 sounds very adult, and currently, I don’t live a very adult life. My life mirrors that of a college frat boy.

4 Life Lessons from What a Girl Wants (Yes, the Amanda Bynes Movie)

There are a wide variety of changes in my life that remind me I am no longer 21. Back in the good ole days, I could be on-the-go non-stop for weeks at a time with very little sleep. Every once in a while, I would take one day to stay-in, and re-charge my batteries. Now in my old age, I need far more than one day of relaxation, I need full weekends, and then that isn’t even enough. Thus, I decided to devote this weekend to some much-needed alone time.

I thought in my isolation I could knock out a

So, what do you do?

Claire HardeeSomeone asked me this question at dinner recently. I was with my husband and his other Marine friends, all of whom had just received their military career assignments. Everyone was talking enthusiastically about their futures and lamenting the fates of the individuals who got some of the not-so-great assignments. I was content listening to everyone explain to me what their Marine jobs would entail (explaining all the jargon and acronyms I’m still not familiar

PSA: Stop getting married and having babies in your 20s

Before you get your panties in a twist, let me clarify: I love babies and I love weddings. What I don’t love is when weddings and babies happen during the first 30 years of a person’s life. When I see Facebook acquaintances sharing nauseating (yet semi-adorable) pictures of these “grown up moments”, I take a second to mourn the loss of their 20s. (Side note: I am not trying to be mean. I am sure they think the same thing about me when I write about my empty career ambitions and drunken party nights). It boggles my mind: why would

Maybe I am biased because Katie is my bff, but I thought her Career Confidential answers were filled with such valuable gems that I decided to break it up into two parts (check out part 1 here). I just couldn’t bring myself to edit it down and risk the chance of missing some real advice.

We are all trying to figure out how to balance all the things we love in life. In Katie’s Career

Welcome to NeonNotebook! My attempt at a blog version 2.0!

I know it is cliché: I have been trying to start this blog for quite a while now. I always had a million excuses for why I couldn’t: “I am too busy with real work”, “I don’t have time”, “It probably won’t get anywhere”…blah, blah, blah. One day, about a month ago, I said, “fuck it, it is time to do what I really want”. Thus, NeonNotebook was born!

I spend a vast majority of my time on the Internet, and I have always felt like there wasn’t a one-stop destination for gen-y girls. There are fabulous fashion blogs, inspiring

The Mission: World Domination

I don’t even have a real blog, and I already suck at being a blogger. I officially started writing this post in July 2012 (right before my 25th bday). Then, I made it my New Years Resolution to blog more, but that hasn’t worked out so well either.

Better late than never seems to be my official motto. So now, as a one-third of the way through the year resolution, I am going to start recording my journey to world domination.

The last 6 or 7 years have been a blur of the good, the bad and the terrifying. In
