I have had this post on my to do list for a few weeks now. Everyday, I promise myself that I am going to write a “What’s Up with Glam?” entry, but then it never gets done. There are a variety of reasons why I haven’t been writing much about Glam lately.
Partially I have been putting off this post because I don’t actually know what to write. For some reason, I have a hard time talking about Glamtrepreneur. I feel like the cause is very close to my heart, so I don’t like sharing it with people. I know, it is some weird psychological thing I have where I hate sharing things that actually mean something to me.
Lately, my life has been so crazy. Not just professionally, but personally too (I have a boyfriend!!). I know, it is shocking, but very nice. For someone that is such a stickler for a schedule, it has been challenging (and liberating at the same time) to break away from routine. All of the sudden there has been a shift in where I wanted to spend my time, and sometimes blog posts just don’t get done. It is all good though.
The reason I wanted to write this “What’s Up with Glam?” post is because summer is winding down. We started out with 12 BizGlam workshops on the calendar, and now there are only 2 left. I can’t believe it. I wanted to take this time to reflect because this summer has definitely been pretty amazing.
Since I am a sucker for a good list, I figured it would be the perfect time to list the top 3 things I learned this summer:
1) Be grateful. I feel like the second you stop being grateful for opportunities, you lose something important. You aren’t necessarily entitled to the things that come your way, and you have to remember that. When you are grateful for events, opportunities or people, it adds so much more to your life. Sometimes I found myself a little stressed out that I had to do yet another BizGlam pop up when I had a million other things to do.
I had to remember…no one had to give me the opportunity to put on the workshops in the first place. I was extremely lucky that people trusted me when I essentially had no track record.
2) Adapt to change. If there is one thing I have learned from trying to teach kids, you can’t really expect to stick to a schedule. Sometimes the workshops that I did went right on schedule and sometimes we didn’t even finish the first section. Honestly, that is okay! For example, last week’s workshop turned into a gabfest about the best Hot Cheetos combinations…apparently Hot Cheetos dipped in Koolaid powder is the way to go! Who knew?!
3) Don’t force things. This is the on going theme with Glamtrepreneur. I am fortunate to be in the position where I don’t have to make tons of money right away. I still have all my PR work, which allows me to take on this passion project. From the beginning, I told myself this summer would be a learning experience, and after I would re-group. I have recently realized that I don’t need to figure out everything today. Instead, I am just going to keep putting the idea out there, and see where it takes me. Yes, one day I would love for Glamtrepreneur to be a lifestyle brand with games, toys and events, but it is going to take time to get there.
Not going to lie, after next week, I am going to be pretty happy to not have to drive to San Antonio every other week. It has definitely been worth it. It has been exciting to see my little idea come to life. I thought I would wrap up this post by sharing some of the fun media we have received in SA:
