Sometimes, I wake up and lack inspiration for just abut everything. That happened to me today. I looked at my to-do list, and was just not in the mood for any of it. Then, I started reading this “3 Things” post, and I got inspired again by the great advice! This is definitely the best thing about my blog…I learn so much from all the wonderful ladies that contribute.
This week, we have Redickaa Subramanian! She is the chief strategist at Interakt, a digital marketing company. With more than 15 years of experience as a global advertising, marketing, and technology expert, Redickaa has used her strategic insight and hands-on leadership to guide Interakt’s growth from a startup organization in 2006 to a globally deployed digital communications company of approximately 200 associates with operations on four continents.
She shares with us some of the things that she has learned along the way:
It’s all about relationships and not pure capabilities – all my life I worked at startups . How I wish I had begun my career in consulting in the Big 5 consulting groups! It would have put me in front of C-level executives and decision makers and given me an opportunity to understand what business problems they have, how they address them and the solutions they accept. This would have immensely helped me when I started my own venture. It is relationship that wins you business and not pure capabilities.
“Destiny has already chosen a path for you. Traverse it. Do not question it. ” – I got married when I was 20 and was a mother when I was 21. Little did I know how to bring up a child. When you are born and brought up in an Indian family the choice of when to get married and to whom is most often not in your hands. I was very keen on pursuing my studies and starting a career. But my dad quite simply said that I was free to do what I wanted after I was married and not getting married at that time was not an option. Today I realize it was probably the best things that ever happened to me. I started my career when my daughter was 4 years old, and there was no turning back. Having a child early worked more to my advantage than to my disadvantage. I grew with my daughter, and she is the biggest believer in what I can achieve apart from my husband and my business partner. Connect the dots back later and you will realize everything happens for a reason.
Walk with an absolute faith and confidence with your head held high into the unknown. Only then will you enjoy the thrill of adventure, new discovery and accomplishments.
Qualification does not guarantee success. It is more your attitude and character that does – I took history in college and then attempted completing professional degrees in chartered accountancy, law and chartered management accountancy. I finally completed my MBA after I started my company in 2006. I realized I was able to do it and enjoy it only because I had already learnt a lot on the job and through unforgettable experiences from outside of the classroom. Learning is a continuum and not restricted to formal classes. What my mother taught me is the secret behind my achievement:
There is nothing you cannot achieve as long as you set your mind on it.
Practice makes perfect
Attitude is hard – Skills are easy
Techniques are quick – Character takes time
Pain is mandatory. Suffering is optional.
