Three Things I Wish I Had Known in My 20’s: Emily Stinchcomb

EmilyStinchcombFullEmily Stinchcomb is the founder of The Simplified Bedding concept.

Her goal was to introduce a convenient bedding solution to the retail marketplace that eliminates tangles and streamlines the bedding make-up and laundering process. The patented system keeps the top sheet securely in place via a seamlessly zippered-in flat sheet attached directly to the underside of the duvet cover.

Now that she has surpassed her goal on Kickstarter, she tells us some of the things she has learned along the way:

1)  You can’t do it alone.  I’m an independent person by nature and have not always needed to rely upon many people to get where I wanted to go.  I wish that I would have realized earlier in life that it is impossible to do it all yourself. Learning to delegate and rely upon others will contribute greatly to your success.  And with that in mind, I believe it’s imperative to choose a good team and surround yourself with people who balance out your strengths.

2)  Be Flexible. Life usually doesn’t end up the way you thought it would and that’s where the magic happens.  Life is created by your experiences, your successes and your failures.  Sometimes we end up veering off course, which is ultimately where we learn and grow.

3)  Hard work and character go a long way.  I used to think it was your credentials that was the measure of your success.  I have learned along the way that is not always the case.  What really make you succeed in business and in life is dedication, work ethic and your relationships with others.
