I Learned Some Baking Shortcuts

Somehow, I got to baking a lot the past two weeks which meant massive amounts of dough/batter in a short amount of time.

Very briefly, I’m going to share with you just a couple of quick fixes that really helped speed the process along:

Grated Butter

The worst part about baking is realizing I have to cream together some damn butter and sugar, and forgetting to let the butter out to sit to get to room temperature. Not a problem anymore. I just grate the butter now, which softens it and makes it much easier to cream anyway.

Grated Butter

I think I learned this little trick from Martha Stewart…well, not personally.

Chocolate Ganache

I needed a quick icing solution for some cupcakes, but didn’t want the tackle to royal icing recipe I have yet. Luckily, Pinterest came to my rescue. All you need is:

-8 ounces of chocolate
-1 cup of heavy cream

Put the chocolate in a medium sized bowl. Bring the cream to a boil (either in the microwave or in a saucepan), then just pour over the chocolate to melt them. Whisk together, making sure the chocolate is aaaallll nice and melted. Refrigerate for about an hour, then use a mixer to whip your icing into shape (you’ll be able to form stiff peaks).

I don’t have any icing tips, to decorate with, so mine didn’t turn out fancy. I just spread it on with a knife. It’s about taste, you guys.

You could eat this by itself, because it’s just like chocolate mousse.

What other things to you need shortcuts for in the kitchen?
