Easy Hair Tips for a Busy Girl on a Budget

While I love fashion, beauty is not my thing at all. I have pretty much been wearing my hair and make up the same way since I was in middle school (probably time for an upgrade). Unlike most of my friends, I never really get that excited when Mac comes out with a wild new lip color or Dior introducing their latest and greatest in mascara technology. Confession: I buy most of my beauty products at Target or at the drugstore; going to Sephora is my version of torture.

Even though I have no patience to learn more beauty tips and tricks, it doesn’t stop me from always complaining about how much I hate my hair. I can never figure out what to do with it! So, I was excited to sit down with Jenny Balding, Cutler/Redken Styling and Grooming Expert, to get the insight on EASY and AFFORDABLE hair care. Jenny Balding- 300dpi

Do you have any time saving tips for styling your hair on the go? Most of us are always rushing out the door with dripping wet hair…

◦       Always have a travel size of dry shampoo on you. I love Redken powder refresh 01. This will give you a quick volume boost if you feel like your hair is a little limp and you need a quick pick-me -up before running to an important meeting.

◦       Also have at hand an anti frizz balm so you can rub a little over your palms and lightly smooth over the mid length to the ends of your hair if you suddenly get static going from heated indoors to the very cold of outside which happens a lot so your not running into an important meeting with crazy static hair!

Are there any drug store hair products that you recommend to ladies on a budget?

Although not sold in drugstores, Redken outshine anti-frizz polishing milk is a really good multi-tasking product for ladies on a budget.  It creates light, clean definition and mild control.  You can use this for straight hair, curly hair, wavy hair.  Use when hair is damp to blow dry and or use on the ends to tame frizz and fly-aways.  Helps to redefine waves or curls.  Although it’s not created for skin it is kind on hands that need a little moisture!

I always hear how you can use things you already have in your kitchen to make facials masks.  This is a great way to save money!  Are there any products that you might already have laying around that could be a good for your hair?

◦       I love my chapstick and have found that it’s very handy for taming fly-aways!  Rub your finger a little over the top of the chapstick and run gently over stray hairs – works great!

◦      Don’t have time to wash your hair but need a quick fix.  Use a little Talcum Powder at the roots to revive your hair. After all, this is where dry shampoo originally was inspired by.

◦       Baking soda is great for removing product build up.  Mix 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda with small amounts of water thick paste forms. Massage into damp hair and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse then shampoo and condition hair.
