The end of last year I was hard at work putting the final touches on the program for Glamtreprenuer’s “Biz Glam” pop up workshops, the goal of which is to get girls excited about entrepreneurship from a young age. It’s been an awesome, interesting journey and we are finally ready to unveil it! If you are interested in hosting a Biz Glam pop up, we can do it in one of two ways. You can hire I have had this post on my to do list for a few weeks now. Everyday, I promise myself that I am going to write a “What’s Up with Glam?” entry, but then it never gets done. There are a variety of reasons why I haven’t been writing much about Glam lately. Partially I have been putting off this post because I don’t actually know what to write. For some reason, I have a hard time talking about Glamtrepreneur. I feel like the cause is very close to my heart, so I don’t like sharing it with people. I know, So, the month of June is almost over, and I can’t believe it. Where has this year gone? We officially have 6 Glamtrepreneur events under our belt, and 8 more scheduled in the coming months. It is crazy to me that this little idea I had is becoming a reality, and could potentially become my full time career. This past month has been a huge learning process for me. Not only have I learned so much more about running a business, but I feel like it has really given me a lot of confidence as a person. I thought it This is going to be a short, random post. If you want me to be completely honest, I am not in the mood to write, and I really want to spend my Sunday afternoon sitting on the couch watching Orange is the New Black! I haven’t had a chance to watch any of the new season! However, I felt the need to do a brief recap of the past few days. We completed our first two BizGlam workshops for SA Youth!!!! Tomorrow, Skara & Co., an all-woman, high school team will pitch their concussion testing app, TimeOut, to a group of investors at Boston TechJam. The ladies, student-athletes themselves, got the idea for the app in Feb. 2014 at the start of spring sports season when the school was announcing the concussion testing schedule. They realized there wasn’t an efficient way to test for concussions, so they decided to do something about it. So far,
Yup, this is how excited we are about Glamtrepreneur! Photo credit: Zora Ellis. Where do I begin? I am just SO SO excited/nervous/terrified/overwhelmed/happy. It is a pretty incredible feeling when people like your idea, and are willing to work with you to make it happen. Like I mentioned before, we are doing business plan writing pop ups this summer, and we officially have 12 on the calendar!!!!! Yes, 12!!!! My original goal was I have seriously been SO SO SO excited all week knowing this post was coming up! In conjuncture with Glamtrepreneur, we are launching a new column on NeonNotebook called, “Getting Glam with…” (GGW). With “3 Things” and Career Confidential, we have all the other generations covered. So, I thought it would only make sense to do a Q&A that features pint-size entrepreneurs. These ladies might be young, but that isn’t stopping them from starting their own businesses!! On our first GGW, classmates Kourvoisia Townsend & Mackenzie Lowman talk about opening up their own retail This week was AWESOME! I honestly didn’t even realize how awesome, until I sat down to write this post. Since last week’s edition, there has been so much progress! I was running around like a crazy person all week…between juggling Glamtrepreneur meetings, keeping up with my PR clients, and blogging/social media, it was definitely exhausting. However, I wouldn’t want it any other way. I met with 4 different organizations to see if they would be interested in teaming up to put on a pop-up business plan writing workshop this summer. And, holy crap, all of them said, “yes”!!!!!! Growing up, going to college, getting a job, and finding a way to support myself was never an option. It was a given. In 2006, when I left San Antonio (where I had lived my whole life) to go to school in Boston, all I knew was that I had to find something that I could do for the rest of my life. I didn’t have the slightest idea of what that would be exactly, but hey, that is what college is for right?! I knew a job was a job, but I wanted to find something that I could |
