As I mentioned before, it was cold and rainy all weekend in Austin, so it was the perfect time to bust out all my over-sized sweaters and leggings. I was excited because on Saturday, the cold front finally gave me a reason to wear my new zip up cardigan from Old Navy (c/o). It was just as warm and cozy as I had anticipated. One of the things I love the most about Austin is that you are in a city, but with a quick 15-20 minute drive you can be in the middle of no True, but embarrassing: sometimes when I can’t decide what outfit to wear, I ask my dog. Obviously, she can’t actually answer, but if she wags her tail, then I just assume she is telling me that she likes it. I know, it is pathetic; I am well on my way to becoming a dog lady. Luckily, I no longer need to ask my dog for fashion advice because now there is an app for that. Postelio lets you quickly ask friends and family for their fashion opinions while you’re out shopping. How cool is that?! We all know Oh man, it is a cold, rainy day here in Austin. Of course all the things I was going to do today involved being outside, so it looks like I am going to spend the day hibernating in my warm apartment. Not so bad. As the week goes on, I always compile a list of links/stories that I want to write about. However, most of the time, I never actually get around to writing the posts. For some reason, this week, I noticed a lot of things that were particularly inspiring to me. So, I wanted to share them with Alas, we are finally at Friday; the last day of my red, white & black series. Today’s pop of red: jeans! Every girl should have at least one or two pairs of fun jeans in her closet. If you can take away one thing from my red, white and black series, it should be that you can find your best statement pieces at thrift stores.
I sorta hate the word, “plus size”, not because I am oblivious to the fact that I am considered plus size, but it has such a negative connotation. And there really aren’t any better synonyms. Curvy? Uh, no thanks, that doesn’t sound better. So, let’s just say this post is for those of us that aren’t a size 2. If you haven’t noticed from my excessive amounts of “What I Wore” posts lately, I am on a fashion rampage. I might be feeling a wee bit nostalgic for my days at Vogue and People’s Revolution. I miss the sense of Another day, another pop of red. I am totally obsessed (get excited because we have 3 more days of this!). This skirt is another wonderful thrift store find (also, see red blazer awesomeness). I have worn some variation of this outfit to many interviews and business meetings. Admittedly, I should probably be wearing Spanx with this skirt, but I didn’t realize it till after the pics were already taken. Ooops…next time.
Every girl should have a go-to leather jacket in Sometimes I just wake up in the morning, with random ideas that have to be executed right away…or else. That is exactly what happened on Saturday morning. I was sitting in my bed thinking about what I would post on the blog this week, and for some reason I was really digging the idea of doing a red, white and black series. It might be cliche/overdone, but I still love this particular color combo. I always gravitate towards black and white pieces, so a pop of red usually makes an outfit for me. I went through my closet and realized MAJOR Fashion Tip: If you see a 40% off sign in the window of Gap, go in! That usually means you can get 40% off of sale items too. I normally don’t go for color, but when I saw this shirt, and it was less than $8, I couldn’t resist. Even though, we had a brief stint of arctic temperatures the last few days, I am happy to report it is back to being in the 80s! Whoo!!
