So you have your credentials and your bags nearly packed for Austin’s premier ten-day festival. But what about hotels? Lucky for you, SXSW has a link to check hotel availability for any dates you’re attending. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite hotels for both lodging, and also for a fun restaurant/bar scene.
W Hotel Austin– Located in the heart of Austin’s 2nd Street District, this buzzy 5-star hotel is located in the middle of all the SXSW action. The W Hotel Austin is also known for its trendy restaurant Trace, which features breakfast, lunch and dinner (we recommend their famous Trace burger). If you’re there over the weekend, Trace also offers an awesome brunch deal with $1 mimosas. If you’re just looking for a place to hang and try unique cocktails, their bar the Living Room has a cozy vibe and features a rotation of professional DJs. The hotel also has both a pool and spa in case you can take a break from the action.
Hotel van Zandt– Only a five minute walk from the Austin Convention Center, this trendy, new hotel is located on lively Rainey Street. The van Zandt’s location makes it an ideal spot for those wanting to walk to both SXSW events and walk to fun night life and the unique bars dotted along Rainey. The hotel also features the Texas-inspired restaurant Geraldine’s, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can also lounge poolside and enjoy a wide mix of cocktails when you’re ready for a break from the SXSW hustle and bustle,
JW Marriott– This hotel is also new and located in downtown, making it super close to all of the SXSW festivities. Since its located a mere two blocks from the Austin Convention Center, the JW Marriott is a perfect choice for someone hoping to travel on foot. The JW also boasts three restaurants and its own Starbucks. We recommend Corner, which has delicious Southern-style food and fun patio bar area. This hotel is also located on Congress, so its easy to check out Austin’s historic South Congress area on foot.
South Congress Hotel– Although located further from some of the SXSW activites, the South Congress Hotel has a trendy, young buzz and is merely steps away from many of Austin’s best restaurant. Situated on Austin’s unique and fun South Congress Avenue, guests lodging at this hotel have access to its pool and 24-hour fitness center. The hotel also boasts a number of restaurants and bars, like the fresh, café-style restaurant Café No Se or its all-American bar with awesome oysters, Central Standard. South Congress Hotel also has its own house car, which can zip you to and from SXSW events.
There are even more hotels to choose from, but these are some of our favorites for their fun vibe and awesome bar scene. Even if you’re not staying at one of these hotels, be sure to check them out!
