August 22, 2014 by Claire Hardee in Lifestyle We’re in the final countdown for baby arrival over here. Last month, I was able to get back to the great state of Texas to visit with family and friends where the awesome Rebekah Epstein (you know, the super chick that runs this blog and Glamptrepreneur) threw my Texas-themed baby shower.
When I arrived back in Florida, my stellar USMC family made my Pool Party Baby Shower dreams come true.
So without further ado, here are the details for your pinning pleasure…or whatever.

As a millennial, it can be annoying to be bombarded with updates from pregnant friends on social media. There’s a lot of eye-rolling to do at every picture with a bow around a belly, and at every craving,#blessed, and countdown status. I’m hoping to take a more honest approach today.
There’s really no point in telling you what to expect based on what I’ve experienced. The only thing I know to be true is that everyone’s pregnancy is totally unique. However, mine’s been pretty textbook, but at the very least you can commiserate with me on all the gross, joyful,

I haven’t been writing much lately, which also means I haven’t announced to the blogosphere that I’m pregnant. 21 weeks and it’s a boy! It’s fantastic, we’re thrilled! This new stage in my life, however, has given me new mama bear instincts and an appreciation and empathy for all the momma’s in my life.
Which is why I wanted to solicit some help from you all today. Another fellow milspouse, Nikki, shared an unfortunate trial that some friends are going through. Their 2-year-old daughter, Lanae, is battling brain cancer.
Lanae was perfectly healthy up until a couple of months ago.

April 1, 2014 by Claire Hardee in ETC. **SPOILER ALERT – How I Met Your Mother Ending**

Here’s the problem with all fans of TV shows in general – when they get invested in a TV show, they start generating all sorts of expectations for the characters. I learned from my Gilmore Girls days that you should never ever set any kind of expectations for series finales. Ever. Also, remember LOST, you guys?
So, this is the day after the How I Met Your Mother finale aaaaand, well, haters gonna hate. I watched the Facebook, Twitter and

It’s official! The Mister and I have paid off our last loan – at age 24!

This is what it feels like to be debt free
I never had any debt until I was married. I made it through school without needing any loans (due to the longtime gift and support from all of my family). My husband received a lot of scholarship help and only

When I was younger I bought an American Girl book about throwing slumber parties. It was one of my favorite things to flip through and got me super excited for my birthday to come around.
If you remember super fun birthday times when you were younger, they usually involved renting out bowling alleys, skating rinks, movie theaters, pizza places, etc. Well, we didn’t have much money growing up, so I was always doing the at-home cheaper DIY options and having that American Girl book made it way more fun.
I recently received another book about party planning that is perfect

Getting up to write is difficult these days. Recently, I don’t have a lot of motivation to get myself to a computer and focus on writing words – and, you know, not getting lost on Buzzfeed, Facebook, and other stupid noise.
I have found my ticket out of the funk though. Another fellow Marine wife here also needs to get her writing butt in gear, so we’ve decided to conquer our procrastination together and meet once a week to write and make sure we’re getting work done.

Somehow, I got to baking a lot the past two weeks which meant massive amounts of dough/batter in a short amount of time.
Very briefly, I’m going to share with you just a couple of quick fixes that really helped speed the process along:
Grated Butter
The worst part about baking is realizing I have to cream together some damn butter and sugar, and forgetting to let the butter out to sit to get to room temperature. Not a problem anymore. I just grate the butter now, which softens it and makes it much easier to cream anyway.

January 31, 2014 by Claire Hardee in Career, ETC. This infograph came to me at a very timely moment. If you didn’t know, my husband is currently in training with the Marine Corp to become a pilot. He’s learning a lot in his classes…but what he fanatically reports to me every single day are the perils of flying. Seriously, E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y he explains to me and shows me YouTube videos of how jets and other military aircrafts have crashed.
Wouldn’t you know, Pilot is 3rd on the list of most dangerous jobs in the US.
He’s flown already, and I guess in someways it’s reassuring that he’s learning what NOT

January 21, 2014 by Claire Hardee in Career, ETC. If my kids choose not to go to college, I might be more proud of them that way. If you’re shocked and appalled, bear with me here…
My husband and I have been talking about the value of trade schools. We’ve been talking about them in the sense that we’d like to encourage our future kids to consider a trade school if it makes more sense. More generally, we were talking about how great it would be for the general public to stop devaluing the path to a well-paying blue collar job instead of glorifying a debt-laden education.
It’s not
