What I Ate: épicerie

épicerie ROCKS! I honestly don’t really know what else to say, other than, I love everything that I have tried on the menu. Not only is the food pretty stellar, the atmosphere is great too. If I ever owned a house, I would want it to look exactly like épicerie: hardwood floors, white wood cabinets, leather ceiling (YES! you heard right), brass/rose gold light fixtures. It is a bit too cold right now, but in the Spring/Summer, the outside patio is the best spot in town for a chill happy hour.

Up until last weekend, I didn’t realize that épicerie served anything other than dinner/happy hour. I went there for brunch with a friend, but we didn’t get the beignets. So this weekend, when we were trying to decide on a lunch spot, I decided that I had to go back to épicerie.

IMG_1683I love going out to eat with my family because we just order a few things to share. Also, this is why I only take pictures for these blog posts when I with the fam because there is more of a variety.  The tri tip steak might be in my top 10 fav meals of all time. SO GOOD!

I like to consider myself a Brussels sprouts connoisseur; every time they are on a menu, I must order them. I thought Uchiko had the best Brussels sprouts in Austin, but these are just as good in a different way.

IMG_1678When I uploaded these pictures, I realized that everything we ordered was fried in some way. I was almost ashamed for a second, but this was on Saturday, so YOLO…you gotta live sometimes. Pictured above is the fried gouda with honey, cherries and almonds.

IMG_1686The fried green tomatoes were a last minute, YOLO decision. I am glad that we ordered them because the okra stuff on top is worth it.

IMG_1687And here are the beignets…the whole reason we went to épicerie in the first place. I have mixed feelings about beignets, in general. I want to like them, but they aren’t really my favorite. These are definitely the best beignets in Austin. However, next time I am sticking to my go-to dessert: the salted chocolate chip cookie.
