The blog has definitely gone through various reiterations of the past 4 years: advice blog, fashion blog, career blog. I feel like it finally is at the place that it was meant for it to be: it is mostly a career/lifestyle blog for busy women. I want the blog to be a place for women to learn from other women. Through our series like Career Confidential & “3 Things I wish I Knew in my 20s”, I hope that we can all learn from each other.
I also try to have content about ways to make life easier or how to use time more effectively. We are all strapped for time, so maybe a new easy recipe or a list of resources for freelancers can help you save a little time here or there. I have wavered on whether or not to keep this blog going, since it isn’t my full time job, but right now I am really liking it…so I will just go with that.
As most people know, I love lists and self reflection, so I wanted to make a list of the 4 things I have learned over the past 4 years:
It is okay to take a break. Last year, I was done with the blog. I had a lot of stuff going on in my personal life and most days I was just trying to stay ahead of the work people paid me to do. The thought of sitting back down at my computer after doing all my regular work made me panic. I just decided to stop. I had other things to deal with and my energy was devoted to those. At the time, I thought I would never do the blog again, but here we are! I still sometimes beat myself up for taking a break, but it is okay. You only have so much energy and it sometimes needs to be focused elsewhere.

Stop comparing yourself to everyone else. This is something that I get stuck in a lot, mostly because of social media. I see other bloggers with a larger following or are more successful or whatever. I try to bring myself back to I do what I can with the resources I have. This blog is supposed to be a fun pastime, so if I am comparing myself to everyone else, then it is no longer fun.
It is okay to evolve. Looking back at some of my earlier posts, I thought I was a fashion blogger and I am just not. I even cringe a little looking back at them. The real reason is that it is just not something I am confident enough about. I think that it is a good lesson for all brands that you don’t have to stay static…it is an ever changing thing and you are more successful when you are flexible and feel as if its okay to change when the times or your interests fluctuate. As a brand, you always want to maintain the essence of who you are, but you shouldn’t stay stuck in one spot forever.

It is okay to make a typo every now and then. Or in my case probably many typos. I mean this in a larger more philosophical way-if you strive for perfection then you will never get anything done. If I am always worried about making a typo, then it can prevent me from actually doing anything. Sometimes you just have to go with it because honestly the most important thing to do is just get started.
