We’re a month into 2017 already (I know, time flies), and in reality, most people have given up their New Year’s Resolution by now. It’s easy to give up, especially if you’ve set a huge, life-altering goal. Well, we are here to give you some ideas to refocus your goals so you can have a happy, healthy and inspiring 2017.
Be specific- It’s important to quantify or qualify your goals. For instance, deciding you want to eat better can mean multiple things. Maybe you want to cut out added sugar or make sure you get five servings of veggies a day. Define how you want to change your behaviors specifically, and it will be easier to achieve the goal you set.
Be realistic- Using the new year as an incentive to completely change your life is tempting, but it can easily set you up to fail. Not seeing results can lead to feeling like a failure, which can put you in that “Why bother?” mindset. Setting small goals and meeting them will give you the feeling of accomplishment that will keep you going all year.
Tell someone– Make your goals known to a member of your family or one of your friends in order to keep yourself accountable. Better yet, team up with someone who has the same goals as you! Working with a buddy makes it more fun and gives you someone to answer to.
Give yourself credit- Any step toward a positive change in your life should be celebrated. Don’t beat yourself up if you didn’t meet your goal all the way. Instead, be proud of yourself for changing something or making some type of improvement and use that as inspiration for creating more dramatic changes. Remember, something is better than nothing!
Reward yourself- If you can never have any fun, you’re sure to go a little crazy. In fact, depriving yourself can totally backfire. Instead, plan for indulgences and treat yourself on a schedule and when you’ve met a goal you wanted to accomplish. That way, you can enjoy your hard work but not get off track.
Keep going- Everyone slips makes mistakes. What’s important though is that you dust yourself off, refocus, and continue with the intention to meet your goals. Instead of giving up, acknowledge your mistake and consider the reasons why you slipped up so you can better prepare yourself. Then, recommit to your original plan.
Hopefully these tips will help you regroup and refocus so you can crush all of your future goals. Go get em!
