Position / Job title?: Performing Artist
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I am thankful that I knew at an early age what I wanted to do and I have been doing it. I also have really supportive parents who would drive me to lessons all over the place when I was younger. In another life, if I wasn’t an artist, I would probably do something in space. It is so much bigger and grander than you can imagine. They say that there are more planets in the universe then there are grains of sand! That blows my mind!!
Tell us what a typical work-day looks like for you. What is your job REALLY like, both the glamorous and not-so-glamorous parts?
It really depends on what is going on at the time…whether I am working on a play, movie, song, or not. Regardless, I am always up early and off to an exercise class, because I really love working out and I need to be in shape for what I do. Since I am my own boss, I have to be disciplined and be sure to practice and keep my instrument (aka my body and voice) in shape. It’s kind of like being an athlete…you have to be in tip-top shape because it is your job and there will be another game to play.
What is the single most important piece of advice you would give to other career-minded women?
I find it helpful to write down my short-term goals (2-3 months) and my long-term goals (1yr-2yr). I physically write it down. I know it sounds a bit like a ‘self-help book,’ but it really works! And if I can do it, you can do it! With some discipline, you can get there!!
If you could look into a crystal ball and see 20 years into your future, what would you want to see?
I would want to still be doing what I am doing now. By then, I would love to be working on my 4th album!!!
Do you have any career role models? Who are they?
Amy Sky who is a singer/songwriter/artist. She has penned songs for Diana Ross, Olivia Newton-John, Reba McEntire, and Cyndi Lauper, among others. She does it all and is this amazingly talented artist, who has a taught me so much. I always ask her how she does it, ‘cause she has a family, too, and she say’s she just does a little bit everyday. I love how honest Amy is. Every chance I get, I thank her for everything she has taught me and done for me.
Thank you so much for your support. I love your blog and reading about all the other incredible women and their stories. Thanks for including me!
