I think I am writing this post because I feel a little guilty. I have been the number one advocate of mornings. I feel like I am always preaching that I can be so productive because I wake up early and get stuff done. However, lately I have fallen off the wagon, so to speak, and I can definitely feel it.
Maybe it is because I have been staying out later or the weather is getting cooler or the mornings are a lot darker, but whatever it is I have been having such a hard time getting my ass out of bed! The consequence of which leaves me feeling scattered and rushed.
To get back to my old routine of less stress and more productivity I need to reclaim my mornings! Here’s how:
- Do something active
I feel like it is important to not start working right away when you wake up. It feels nice to do something enjoyable to get your day started. Whether it is a 6 AM spin class or just taking my dog for a leisurely stroll around the block, I always feel better when I do some kind of work out in the AM.
- E-mails
Waking up early allows you to go through your e-mails before the rest of the world wakes up and starts sending you more. I feel like my days go by more smoothly, when I can get my inbox down to zero before 9 AM.
- Get dressed
Today, writing this post, is a perfect example. I pressed snooze a few too many times (mostly because I was having awesome dreams) and now I have decided to work from home all day in my gym clothes. What is the point of changing, when I am going to go work out tonight?
I feel like doing this every now and then is a nice way to break up a routine, but don’t make it a habit. When I get dressed, I feel like I am ready to conquer the day which is an amazing feeling.
- Eat breakfast/pack lunch
My eating habits are one of the main things that suffer when I don’t wake up early enough. A lot of times, I will skip breakfast, not have time to pack lunch, and then eat something really unhealthy for lunch or eat the snacks at office. This week, I am definitely trying to get back into the routine of at least eating a little something for breakfast and packing lunches so I don’t resort to something unhealthy or spending unnecessary money.
