My mission to decorate my new apartment with the most kitschy, random stuff ever took me on a little adventure to the flea market in Leander, a 20 minute drive from Austin.
Leander is stereotypical Texas: there are a lot of churches and an abundance of fields with cows. It is charming.
I decided to check it out because I noticed that some of the vendors were posting really cool pieces on Craigslist. I am glad I ventured out there because the Leander Flea Market is a wonderfully strange, yet awesome place.
Typically at a flea market, each vendor has a table with their merchandise. At the Leander Flea Market, each vendor has their stuff in either a small house or a double wide. It looks a little odd when you first arrive.
I fell in love with all of the antique glassware. It is so beautiful and intricate, but I didn’t buy any because I don’t have a real need for it. I might make a trip back to buy a vase or something.
I wouldn’t go to the Leander Flea Market looking for something specific; instead, just go with an open mind. It is a great place to find knick knacks and unusual art to put on the wall. These pictures don’t adequately show all of the random things that I found.
Prices are negotiable, so you can definitely get some good deals.
While I was supposed to only be looking for apartment stuff, the best thing about the Leander Flea Market was the jewelry. In the end, I would say the day was pretty successful: I got 2 chairs for my kitchen table, this random picture for my desk and all the jewelry for under $75.
