6 Ways to Clean Out Your Closet like a Pro

It’s about that time of year-spring cleaning is in the air. And, if you’re like us, you haven’t re-organized your closet in what feels like ages. The task may seem daunting, but we have some tips for making the project a little easier.

  • Take everything out- If you’ve accumulated lots of clothes over the years, this definitely seems intimidating. However, its great to take everything out so you can really scrutinize what’s left. Also, having a completely empty closet will help you keep your closet organized when you decide what to keep.
  • Seriously scrutinize your clothes- Like seriously. Ask yourself questions like, “When’s the last time I wore this?” and “Would I buy it in a store today?” If you have any thought that you might want to get rid of it, go ahead and toss it.
  • Buy new hangers- This may seem silly, but using uniform hangers will make your closet feel more organized and easy to use. Keeping your closet looking like a boutique is visually pleasing and will help you keep your clothing straight.
  • Organize your clothing the way you like them– It may be tempting to color-code your clothes by season, but if you know you won’t keep up with, you’ll end up with a jumbled mess. Think about what’s easiest for you to keep up with and that will help you keep your closet organized for longer.
  • Determine what you can sell, donate or toss– Once you decide what clothes you plan on keeping, its almost as daunting of a task to decide hwo to get rid of all of your extra clothes. If the clothes are in great condition and lightly worn, it’s probably best to sell them. Apps like Poshmark and Tradesy are a great way to sell clothing and they provide free shipping labels for you. Buzzfeed also has a great list of websites that make selling your clothes easy. Items that are also in good condition but may be out of season can be donated. Gone for Good will pick up your unwanted clothing, sell them, and then donate the money to a cause of your choice. If an item is badly damaged or is underwear, just toss it.
  • Use your door– Doors are a great way to add in some extra storage. I personally use a shoe organizer on my door to store my shoes, but doors can also store your jewelry.

There’s no tip that can make the process of cleaning out your closet simple, but these hacks will hopefully make your spring-cleaning more productive. Now get cleaning so you can make room for some of this spring’s biggest trends!
