I’d Rather Be Short

This is a shout out to all of the shorties out there! Finally, a celebration and ode to the vertically challenged – Becky Murphy’s new book “I’d Rather be Short” shares the overlooked advantages of a small stature.

Ahem–I’m actually of average height (and probably average in every sense of the word), but I thought of the perfect person to review this book for y’all. My cousin, Monica Castro. She’s older than me and I’ve been taller than her for most of our lives. She’s probably endured just about every short joke there is…maaaaybe even a few from me.

Get Over the Excuses, and Make Yourself Work Out.

About a week ago, I felt myself coming down with a cold. Of course my first thought was “Oh well, I guess I need to take a break from running!”…as though I had actually been running regularly.

Think again. I hadn’t been running because I strained my knee. When it was finally better, I was “conveniently” needed another week of rest This is the challenge, people. Getting over excuses and making yourself workout! And boy is it a challenge!

I decided to actually do some research to see if it was okay to run with a looming cold. I found

What I Ate: O’Daku Sushi

Another shopping center, another fantastic restaurant. It is an on going theme in Austin. O’Daku Sushi is my go-to sushi spot; I am pretty sure I have taken everyone I know there. At this point, I have been so many times that I have ordered the majority of the menu, and everything rocks.

This is a bold statement, but O’Daku is probably my favorite sushi place of all time. Cherin Sushi (another one of my favs) in the East Village is the only place that really compares.

Things I am Obsessed With…

This was a good week for many reasons: 1) I only worked Monday and Tuesday 2) I got to spend Thanksgiving with my crazy, but totally lovable family 3) I ate way too much delicious food

564595_10101917718807940_813940842_nI know, we are cute.

The short week didn’t prevent me from getting obsessed with lots of random things:

1) Watch Kanye West’s new video for Bound 2. Then, watch James Franco and Seth Rogen’s AMAZING Read More

What I Ate: Sunflower Restaurant

So yesterday, it was extremely cold and rainy, and for anyone that knows me, knows I despise the cold. I am all about the hot Texas summers. The only thing that could motivate me to throw on an over-sized sweater, and leave my cozy apartment was the promise of hot pho.

In the end, I am glad I left because we had a pretty amazing meal. Below are the details.

Things I am Digging This Week…

Oh man, it is a cold, rainy day here in Austin. Of course all the things I was going to do today involved being outside, so it looks like I am going to spend the day hibernating in my warm apartment. Not so bad.

As the week goes on, I always compile a list of links/stories that I want to write about. However, most of the time, I never actually get around to writing the posts. For some reason, this week, I noticed a lot of things that were particularly inspiring to me. So, I wanted to share them with

Dial Down the Stress: Avoid the Demands of the Holidays

Every year, I look forward to the day when Starbucks brings back the festive, red holiday cups. In my mind, that is the official kick off to the holiday season, my favorite time of the year! I get really excited about Black Friday, Christmas music, and all the parties and get-togethers. While the holiday season is supposed to be fun, it can also be extremely stressful. There is a reason why November is National Stress Awareness Month!

Kelly Walsh, 20 year human resource veteran, president of 1SmartLife and author of the Teeter Totter Conundrum, explains why our stress

The Rules of Fashion If You Aren’t a Size Two

I sorta hate the word, “plus size”, not because I am oblivious to the fact that I am considered plus size, but it has such a negative connotation. And there really aren’t any better synonyms. Curvy? Uh, no thanks, that doesn’t sound better. So, let’s just say this post is for those of us that aren’t a size 2.

If you haven’t noticed from my excessive amounts of “What I Wore” posts lately, I am on a fashion rampage. I might be feeling a wee bit nostalgic for my days at Vogue and People’s Revolution. I miss the sense of

Friends with Benefits: Good Idea or Terrible Idea?

Okay, so, I’m definitely not an “expert” on friends with benefits, but I’ve had a few situations in my life that have made me familiar with the subject.

Anyway, these kinds of relationships have an expiration date. According to some really prestigious websites (I forgot the name of it) that do experiments on these things, a friends with benefits situation is not supposed to last more than 3 months. Or else the dreaded happens, and someone will get feelings or whatever. Well as the rebel that I am, I refused to believe this, and proceeded to have an on and

What I Ate: Super Donuts

Most people probably don’t think fashion and food go together, but in my world, they are my two greatest loves. Thus, I have decided that it makes sense to start doing a regular column called, “What I Ate”. When it comes to food, I am pretty much down for anything from gourmet to gross (I am never above Taco Bell or Dominos).

One of the greatest things about living in Austin is the food, so I am going to try to use these posts to highlight all the local spots. However, I can’t deny that I love a good meal
