Next up on Career Confidential, another awesome lady: Brandy Shea! I have had the honor of working with Brandy professionally, which is always a treat because she is one of the most creative people I know. On top of that, she is also one of my closest friends. If I were you, I would listen to what she has to say because she is an expert advice-giver; she knows what she is talking. I know from I am not sure what it is. Maybe it is because it is Monday, and I always feel a little bit off on Mondays, but I woke up with an impending sense of doom that my 26th birthday is in a month. 26 is old!! Last week, I went to my routine dermatology appointment, and I found myself almost asking about Botox. Whoa slow the breaks; I want to still be able to show emotion!! For some reason, 26 sounds very adult, and currently, I don’t live a very adult life. My life mirrors that of a college frat boy. Let me preface this post by saying, bear with me: this video is not going to win an Oscar for cinematography anytime soon. Sometimes in life, you just have to tell your inner perfectionist to “shut the hell up”. Mostly, I wish there was a way I could get rid of the dark circles under my eyes! However, since this blog is all about being real, this is REALISTICALLY what I look like on a Friday afternoon after a long week. I am so technologically incompetent: it took me the entire day to figure out iMovie and embed When I first started thinking about creating a blog, I had a hard time deciding what to focus on. Initially, NeonNotebook was only going to be a career blog. Then, I decided NO WAY; that is no fun. So, we introduced the other sections: fashion, lifestyle and pop culture. Not to sound ridiculous, but I love fashion, so it seemed unnatural to leave that out of my blog. I don’t want to be biased on my own blog because technically I love all the posts, but I really really LOVE Career Confidential. Each week, I look forward to posting this column because all of these fabulous ladies have such invaluable advice and insight. And who better to learn from than those who are in the process of making it big? I feel like in the last Career Confidential with Katie Amey (Part 1 and 2), I recently had to take a Let’s just say it was nothing like what I expected. When discussing what should be worn to interviews, she suggested that women should be wearing suits and close-toed kitten heels (GASP!). Oh and heaven forbid that we forget those horrendous panty hose. News flash: it’s the 21st century and nobody dresses that way for There are a wide variety of changes in my life that remind me I am no longer 21. Back in the good ole days, I could be on-the-go non-stop for weeks at a time with very little sleep. Every once in a while, I would take one day to stay-in, and re-charge my batteries. Now in my old age, I need far more than one day of relaxation, I need full weekends, and then that isn’t even enough. Thus, I decided to devote this weekend to some much-needed alone time. I thought in my isolation I could knock out a I am totally guilty of it: the second I wake up in the morning, I scroll through my Facebook and Twitter to make sure nothing Earth shattering happened in the last 8 hours. This morning, (not surprisingly) I saw that people were still feverishly sharing information about the Rolling Stone boycott. (If you have been living under a rock, let me give you the Cliff Notes version: the newest issue of Rolling Stone has Dzhokhar “Jahar” Tsarnaev, the living Boston bomber, on the cover) While Rolling Stone is never on my list of must-reads, I had to see what people Before you get your panties in a twist, let me clarify: I love babies and I love weddings. What I don’t love is when weddings and babies happen during the first 30 years of a person’s life. When I see Facebook acquaintances sharing nauseating (yet semi-adorable) pictures of these “grown up moments”, I take a second to mourn the loss of their 20s. (Side note: I am not trying to be mean. I am sure they think the same thing about me when I write about my empty career ambitions and drunken party nights). It boggles my mind: why would
Maybe I am biased because Katie is my bff, but I thought her Career Confidential answers were filled with such valuable gems that I decided to break it up into two parts (check out part 1 here).
